September 12, 2020 (Quantico, VA) -Semper K9 Assistance Dogs (Semper K9) is a non-profit that provides custom trained service dogs to disabled American veterans at no cost. They actively encourage community awareness, understanding, and action for young adult mental health awareness.

In 2004, Christopher and Amanda Baity founded Semper K9 to help impact the veteran service community. Today, Semper K9 is a nationally recognized and award-winning nonprofit committed to making an impact in the service dog community. The organization has helped found, with other leaders in the service dog community, an association known as the leader in the service dogs for veterans industry that educates & advocates for disabled American veterans, their service dogs and the organizations that serve them.

Semper K9 is seeking connected and creative new Board members to further their mission and provide new opportunities for continued success. This member will be joining the organization at an exciting time of growth and will serve as a fresh voice in an already active conversation regarding support service for disabled veterans and military families. Board members will meet formally four times throughout the year in Catlett, VA to review the organization’s financial status and organizational plan, and to discuss steps needed for the future.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Set the direction of the organization, including providing input and guidance on the mission and vision, setting goals, monitoring the strategic plan, and approving the organization’s budget.
  • Monitor the successful implementation of the organization’s programs and services and offer suggestions and solutions should problem areas arise.
  • Act as a mentor to senior staff, using your unique perspective to guide staff members in areas where you have already seen personal and professional success.
  • Consider Semper K9 a philanthropic priority and make an annual contribution and/or generate contributions from your network.
  • Act as an enthusiastic ambassador for the organization to other agencies, funders or potential funders, thought leaders, key decision makers, and the general public.
  • Attend all Board meetings either in-person or virtually, and review in detail all supporting materials prior to the Board and committee meetings.

Resumes & letter of consideration can also be submitted via email to amanda@semperk9.org. This is a volunteer position with a minimum average annual commitment of 12 hours.
