Zach
Semper K9 is proud to announce the acceptance of Zach into our Service Dogs for Veterans Program. Zach is a Golden Retriever donated by Ken & Glenda Hagie. Zach is named in memory of Semper K9 supporter Mildred A. Showers in honor of her beloved dog Zach.
Mildred ‘Milly’ Showers was born in 1941. Her love and compassion for animals led her to support the Weimaraner Club of America. While living in Ohio in the 1970s, her desire to serve led her to the field of emergency medical services as a volunteer paramedic with the township fire department in her community. She was a strong supporter of the Fischer House Foundation, builders of comfort homes where military and veteran families can stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital.
As a civilian, in 2002, Milly retired from the United States Army following her exceptional contributions to the Community and Family Support Center (CFSC), Community Recreations Directorate, the Army Entertainment Division, the Human Resources Directorate, and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Academy. Milly’s contributions and achievements to the United States Army were exceptional. While not all inclusive, significant achievements included developing and managing key contracts in supporting the CFSC’s mission, providing outstanding contracting advice, and assisting the MWR Academy in teaching the Non- Appropriated Fund Advanced Contracting Course.
Milly’s exceptional expertise created an outstanding partnership with Army Entertainment and the MWR Academy. It contributed to the NAF Contracting Directorate’s goal of adding value and providing solutions for MWR programs. Milly’s efforts reflect great credit on her, the US Army Community and Family Support Center, and the US Army. She was awarded the Department of the Army Commander’s Award for Civilian Service on January 15, 2002.
