At Semper K9 Assistance Dogs, every service dog in training is given a name that reflects the courage, dedication, and service of our military community. Nelli, one of our newest service dogs in training, is named in tribute to Nellis Air Force Base, a cornerstone of American airpower and a symbol of excellence in military aviation training and operations.

Located just outside Las Vegas, Nevada, Nellis AFB is one of the most important and active installations in the United States Air Force. Often referred to as the “Home of the Fighter Pilot,” Nellis is where cutting-edge air combat tactics are developed and refined. The base is home to the United States Air Force Warfare Center, Air Combat Command, and hosts advanced training exercises like Red Flag, a premier multinational aerial combat training program.

The Airmen stationed at Nellis—and the thousands who rotate through each year—are among the most elite in the world. Nellis plays a vital role in ensuring air dominance, national security, and global readiness. Its legacy is one of precision, innovation, and unwavering dedication to defending our nation and allies.

Just like her namesake, Nelli the service dog is training to support a disabled American veteran with a mission of unwavering service and reliability. Nelli is showing the same focus and determination that makes the work done at Nellis AFB so critical. Her training is laying the foundation for her to become a lifeline and loyal partner to a veteran who has served with honor.
