Semper K9 is proud to announce the acceptance of Bubba into our Service Dogs for Veterans Program. Bubba is an Airedale Lab mix donated by Manocrest Kennels. He is named in memory of Ted Fleming, USMC Vietnam Veteran.

Ted Fleming was born in National City, California on July 16, 1949. He lived in Indian Land, SC, and enjoyed sports, being a sports writer and avid sports photographer covering many sporting events in both Florida and the Carolinas.  A decorated USMC Vietnam Combat Veteran, Ted proudly served our country for over three years and, later in life, was a Peace Officer for the TBTA in New York. He served in the Marine Corps from September 1966 to May 1970, including 13 months in Vietnam. His MOS was Radio Telegraph Operator (2533). His decorations include; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Vietnamese Campaign Medal, COMBAT Action Ribbon, and Rifle Marksman Badge.

In January of 2018, he finally got a long-awaited therapy dog to help with his PTSD. “It made a tremendous difference and know how important [Semper K9’s] mission is in helping veterans like him,” said his widow Peggy. “Our family believes this would be the ultimate way to honor him and his life, by naming a service dog candidate for him.”

Ted passed away at age 72 on June 16, 2022. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
