Kenny
Semper K9 is proud to announce the acceptance of Kenny into our Service Dogs for Veterans Program. Kenny is a Cream Retriever donated by the Spencer Family. Kenny is named in memory of Marine Corps combat veteran Kenneth J. Lyon.
Kenneth J. Lyon, known as Kenny, was a highly esteemed Marine Corps veteran and IT specialist who passed away on September 9, 2021, at the age of 36 after a brief medical incident.
Kenny enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October 2003, serving as an LAV Mechanic with Delta Company, 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance. His dedication to service led him to deploy to Iraq in August 2004 and again in March 2006. During his second deployment, Kenny sustained severe injuries in May 2006, earning him the Purple Heart. Despite enduring over 50 surgeries and a lengthy rehabilitation process to relearn to walk, Kenny remained a beacon of positivity and resilience, embodying an unwavering zest for life that inspired all who knew him.
An avid gamer and computer enthusiast, Kenny earned a degree in Computer Science and pursued a successful career as an IT Computer Specialist with Tracepoint, LLC. His expertise in technology and his passion for innovation were matched only by his warm and engaging personality.
Kenny was engaged to Sarah Chiles, and their relationship was marked by a shared love for building Legos, playing games, and spending quality time with family. He is survived by his mother, GiGi Keith; his sister, Tiffany Lyon Rannebarger, and her husband TJ; his beloved nephews, Ethan and Chris; his uncle, Chip Lyon; cousin, Haley; and his fiancé, Sarah Chiles, along with her daughters, Emma and Hannah Buzzell.
Kenny also leaves behind his Marine brothers and sisters, along with a wide circle of friends and extended family. His life was a testament to the power of a positive attitude and the joy of sharing laughter. In his own words, Kenny believed that each day is a precious gift, and he encouraged others to cherish every moment.
As Kenny once said, “When you wake up, remind yourself each day is a gift, then do your best not to squander that gift. After all, waking up means the day started out great.”
