At Semper K9 Assistance Dogs, every service dog in training is given a name that carries deep meaning, honoring the spirit of service, sacrifice, and commitment that defines our nation’s military community. Jeune, one of our newest service dogs in training, proudly carries a name inspired by Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, paying tribute to the generations of Marines who have trained, served, and sacrificed there since the base’s founding.

Located in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Camp Lejeune has been a vital part of Marine Corps history since it was established in 1941. Spanning more than 240 square miles, this base serves as a key hub for combat readiness, training Marines to deploy quickly and effectively around the globe. It is home to the II Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Command, and numerous other operational and support units.

Camp Lejeune is more than a training facility—it’s a place where Marines begin their careers, build lifelong bonds, and prepare for the realities of warfighting. The base’s motto, “Ready, Relevant, and Responsive,” perfectly captures the ethos of the men and women who serve there. The name Jeune honors the thousands of past, present, and future Marines who have walked its grounds and carried its legacy into battlefields around the world.

Like the Marines of Camp Lejeune, Jeune the service dog is being trained to serve with focus, loyalty, and heart. Through Semper K9’s service dog training program, Jeune is learning to provide life-changing support to a disabled American veteran. Jeune’s discipline, drive, and growing skillset are a fitting reflection of the values instilled in Marines who have trained at Camp Lejeune for over 80 years.
